College Essentials: Dorm Room

Seeing how many of you enjoyed the school supply essentials for college based on my opinion, I have decided to share with you all what I found helpful in my dorm rooms and college apartment.
1. Whiteboards, Cork boards, and Magnet boards
- I found each one of these to be very helpful. With the college handing out flyers, notes to remind me of upcoming things, and more I was able to stay on track by having all of my important things in one place.
2. Calendars
- Having a planner is good, but with a calendar that hangs on the wall or even a whiteboard calendar is a great idea. For me, planners would get lost in my backpack and then everything I wrote would get forgotten. With a calendar on my wall, I am reminded to write things on it and look at things coming up. I also feel like calendars are a good way to see whether you are balancing school with social time. I like to write school schedules in one color, due dates in another, and social time in another. This will make sure you are giving time for both, which is important for your sanity.
3. String Lights
- In my first dorm room the main light was absolutely blinding and getting in my lifted bed was always difficult to do if I was the one to turn off the lights. Getting in a bed almost to the ceiling when it is dark is quite difficult. So I took regular Christmas lights that I got on sale one year and strung them around the perimeter of the ceiling. The plug ended right by my bed which allowed me to turn them off while I was already in my bed and the lights were a lot dimmer, which was more appealing to our eyes.
4. Privacy Pop
- I only used this my freshman year when I shared a room, but I found it very helpful. Basically it is a tent that fits perfectly on the bed frame and then the mattress fits inside. It has a zipper on both sides and both ends. I would use it at night to close all the flaps, but then still have a personal light inside. This allowed me to still get homework done if my roommate was asleep.
5. Saucer Chair
- I have tons of little chairs like this so I can fold them up while I have no guests, but if I am having a get together or study session I can bring them out and create comfy chairs with quick clean up. It is a great investment.
6. Ottoman with storage
- I have built up quite a collection of these. I have the simple square ones with different patterns and I also have a long bench sturdy one. These are great for extra seating, mini tables, or foot rests. They also are great to hid extra stuff that you do not one out in the open for all of your guests to see.
Okay guys I hope this mini list helps you in your college journey. I have plenty of other suggestions so if you want to learn about some more let me know and I would love to do a part two. If you have not read the School Supplies for college post go ahead and check that out now and I will talk to you guys soon. Thank you and feel free to comment, follow, and request.
